Paving Project Underway on West Side of Pikes Peak Greenway

Great news for local trail users! Colorado Springs Parks has officially kicked off the next phase of the Pikes Peak Greenway paving project. This week, construction began on the section between Uintah Street and Mesa Road.

January 2025 Update

Construction has begun on the next phase of the Parks Department’s paving project, focusing on the section between Uintah Street Underpass and the Legacy Plaza trailhead at Centennial Boulevard. This marks the completion of paving of the west Duck Pond section of trail between Mesa Road and Uintah Road. construction will continue through winter 2025. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses!

Why pave this section of the Pikes Peak Greenway

  • Improved Accessibility: Once completed, this paved path will provide a smooth, all-weather route for bicyclists and pedestrians of all abilities including those using wheelchair or adaptive cycles.
  • Enhanced Safety: The wider, paved surface will increase visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Reduced Maintenance: A paved trail requires less maintenance and is less susceptible to erosion.

East Side of Pikes Peak Greenway will remain gravel

Fans of unpaved trails need not worry. Due in part to deed restrictions when Monument valley park was transferred to the City Colorado Springs the east side of the Pikes Peak Greenway will never be paved maintaining a great unpaved trail option in Downtown Colorado Springs
