Your Chance Shape OCC and Downtown: Take the Survey Now
The City of Colorado Springs is shaping the future of Downtown and Old Colorado City’s roadways, and your voice matters! This is your chance shape OCC and Downtown.
The city is conducting a second curb management/parking survey with an interactive map and survey to gather public input on how these historic districts can best serve residents, businesses, and visitors. The survey will close December 2nd.
This is another opportunity for us to advocate for a bike and pedestrian friendly future!
Here’s what Bike COS would like to see in the new plans:
- More Bike Parking: Downtown and Old Colorado City need ample, secure bike parking options to encourage biking as a viable transportation choice.
- Safe Bike Infrastructure: We urge the city to avoid on-street parking designs that compromise safe and comfortable biking and pedestrian infrastructure. Diagonal on-street may be hazardous to bicyclists since motorists typically must back into traffic.
Take Action:
- Visit the City’s Parking and Curb Management Plan website: https://coloradosprings.gov/2024ParkingPlan
- Use the Interactive Map: Drop pins to indicate where you’d like to see additional bike parking.
- Complete the Survey: Share your thoughts on parking, loading zones, and desired curb uses.
The results of this survey will directly impact exciting upcoming projects that aim to transform Colorado Springs’ historic districts! This includes the Tejon Street Revitalization Project, kicking off construction in 2025, which aims to improve pedestrian and bike access alongside this historic corridor. Additionally, the survey findings will influence the Colorado Avenue reconstruction project, approved by voters in PPRTA 3 2022 and identified in the Midland Corridor Transportation Study. By participating in this survey, you’ll have a say in shaping the future of these key transportation arteries and how they integrate people on bikes, on foot, using transit and driving!
Together, we can create vibrant downtowns that are welcoming and accessible to bike riders!
Spread the Word: Share this post and encourage fellow residents to participate in the survey. Let’s build a better future for biking and walking in Colorado Springs!
