Sinton Trail under I25 closed for construction

For the past month I25 construction has been in progress where the Sinton Trail crosses under I25. During planning we were assured that, for the majority of this project, Sinton Trail would remain open through I25 construction. CDOT has put thoughtful consideration into the detours and signage; and most importantly is working hard to reduce complete trail closures under I25 to only the times where a complete closure is required due to safety concerns.

Unfortunately the current closure is extending well beyond the month duration it was planned for. We will share any updated timelines once they are shared with us.

Starting February 14 the Sinton Trail will close for an undetermined length of time for safety critical work which involves moving and placing 10-foot vertical panels on the south side of Ellston Street.

Detour routes will be in effect during the construction work.

Unrelated to the current February-April Closure

Unfortunately we have heard that the Project Team has been subjected to verbal abuse and multiple threats of violence from some trail users, please be kind to the workers and thank them for their help navigating the site. We have been assured that the project team is working to keep the trail open after the needed work has been completed. Please be kind to the workers and thank them for their help navigating the site, the CDOT project team stated that they would close the trail if threats continue. Keep reading to see what Bike Colorado Springs is doing to make sure the trail remains open.

Sinton Trail Detour and Closure information

Detours are routed but will require extensive re-routes. Additionally the Garden of the Gods Road detour includes narrow 3 Ft sidewalks that may not be passable on wider cycles and crossings of on and off ramps to I25.

CDOT has been working with Bike COS, other bicycle advocates, and trail advocates to brainstorm ways to maintain trail access while keeping the project staff safe. The project staff is working to implement solutions now, our recommendations included:

Reporting incidents to law enforcement
Flyers informing neighborhood of trail impacts (CDOT Flyer above)
Signage about flaggers/escorts for trail users
Bike ambassadors visit the project site during critical commuting times

We will update if there is any addition information on this project
