Draft 2026 Colorado Springs Park System Master Plan Released
The City has officially released the draft Park System Master Plan. Which will replace the current Parks Master Plan adopted in 2014. This draft plan will guide the development and improvement of trails, parks, and open spaces for the next decade-plus. Public comment is open through September 22.
Stay tuned for our position on this plan, as we are taking time to thoroughly review the draft, but we encourage everyone to dive in as well.
Why this Parks Masterplan Matters
Parks, open space, trail connectivity, and access to the national forest around Pikes Peak are what make Colorado Springs truly special. As this master plan guides how our city adapts to a growing population, we need to ensure local access is prioritized alongside regional destinations; meaning small, accessible neighborhood parks are close, safe, and easy to reach right outside our front doors.
Equally important, this process is our chance to double down on our call from when the plan was first announced: our urban trails must be formally treated as vital transportation infrastructure. That means holding our urban trail network to the same high standards of connectivity, clear wayfinding, maintenance, and route redundancy as our road network. Ensuring safe, low-stress connections to both small neighborhood parks and major trail corridors is essential for a connected, bike-friendly and livable Colorado Springs.
