Bicycle access to Garden of the Gods impacted by construction

UPDATE 11/13: November 18-22 Gateway entrance closure

Do you ride through Garden of the Gods frequently? Starting in mid October there will be closures on Gateway Road and Gateway Trail due to the Garden of the Gods Waterline Project. Through Phase 1 eastbound travel will remain open with specific westbound closures highlighted below.

Gateway Road/Trail Closure Nov. 18-22 Mon-Fri

– No westbound bicyclist access into the park from Foothills trail/30th Street

– Gateway Road west and Juniper Way Loop north will be closed to all users.

Gateway Trail closed to bicyclists during this time (only open for walkers).

– Vehicles traveling through the park eastbound will need to exit via Gateway Road as Juniper Way Loop will be inaccessible.

Garden of the Gods Closure Schedule

Through Phase 1 eastbound travel will remain open with specific westbound closures highlighted below – interactive Project map available here or through the project website

Wednesday through Friday, October 16-18th: Westbound Gateway Road closed, Trail open

  • Westbound traffic closed (cars & bikes) into the park from 30th Street on Gateway Road.
  • Gateway Trail will remain open to walkers and bicyclists
  • Eastbound lane of Gateway Road will be open for exiting vehicles.

Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20th:Gateway Road will be reopened to cyclists and vehicles. Proceed with caution around construction equipment.

Monday through Wednesday, October 21-23th:

  • No westbound bicyclist access into the park
  • Gateway Road west and Juniper Way Loop north will be closed to all users.
  • Gateway Trail closed to bicyclists during this time (only open for walkers).
  • Vehicles traveling through the park will need to exit via Gateway Road as Juniper Way Loop will be inaccessible.

Bike Commuter Detour Options

For bike riders traveling to and from Manitou Springs to the Garden of the Gods Rd corridor:

  • Westbound: Foothills Trail to 31st Street Bike lane to Pikes Peak Ave or Midland Trail
  • Eastbound: Garden of the Gods park will remain open for east bound traffic
  • Eastbound: El Paso St/Pikes Peak Ave to 31st Street Bike Lane to the Foothills trail detour will avoid construction through Garden of the Gods

Garden Dr. affected reduced to one-lane, flaggers present
Bike/Pedestrian Lane closed, riders merge with traffic.
Hikers/runners utilize trails.

Phase 4
Estimated timeline: March to May 2025
Columbia Rd. (dirt road) Closed to all traffic and pedestrians, Horse Reroute
