Safer Tejon St Bike Connection Under Construction – Ivywild to Downtown

As of May 2025 Construction is mostly complete

we will make a new post shortly with details of the reworked intersections. Please use caution through this are as there are new traffic patterns that both drivers and bike riders may be unfamiliar navigating.

The City of Colorado Springs is in progress with the I-25/Nevada/Tejon project, bringing significant improvements for bike riders traveling between Ivywild and Downtown Colorado Springs!

For many riders, the stretch of Tejon Street under I-25 has long been a daunting obstacle. This critical connection is the only bike route linking Southwest Colorado Springs to Downtown, but heavy traffic accessing and exiting I-25 made it dangerous to navigate.

Bike lane closure through construction

Currently, both the bike lane and sidewalk on Tejon through this interchange are blocked due to construction. Bicyclists must exercise extreme caution and take the lane to safely navigate this area.

UPDATE – Construction team is working to add detour signage for people biking though this area. The team shared that the Tejon phase of this project will be open in late November. The city project website will be updated regularly with project updates.

Tejon/I25 Project Highlights

The good news is, the I-25/Nevada/Tejon project is transforming this corridor into a safe and inviting cycling route. Here are the highlights for Tejon St bike connection under construction now:

  • Off-street trail with signals at I-25 off-ramps: No more merging with inattentive traffic! A dedicated off-street trail will guide users safely under I-25, with clear signals at the on and off ramps.
  • Colorado Springs’ First Protected Intersection: Get ready to experience a new level of safety at the Tejon and Motor Way intersection. This will be the city’s first protected intersection, providing cyclists with a dedicated space to ensure smooth and safe crossings.
  • New Off-street Pedestrian/Bike Bridge over Cheyenne Creek: The project includes a brand new off-street bridge dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, eliminating the need to navigate the busy Tejon Street bridge over Cheyenne Creek. This will create a seamless connection between Tejon and Nevada.
  • Trail Connection from I-25/Nevada to Arvada St.: The project goes beyond the Tejon underpass! Since motorway no longer connects across Nevada, a new trail connection will be built from the I-25/Nevada intersection all the way to Arvada Street, further enhancing connectivity in Southwest Colorado Springs.

These improvements, combined with wider sidewalks and enhanced visibility, will make cycling between Ivywild and Downtown much smoother! Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses.
