First BCS Ladies PikeRide on 25 August 2018
The first ever Ladies Ride sponsored by PikeRide and Bike Colorado Springs on 25 August 2018 was a smash hit! Riders gathered under sunny skies outside of the Fine Arts Center for what would be the inaugural ladies ride using share bicycles. Tyna Murray of PikeRide was there to greet and provide RFID cards so that riders could scan and activate share bicycles. PikeRide also provided additional helmets in case a rider did not have their own. Riders paid $5.00 to try out the new share bicycles in a relaxed and supportive environment with other like-minded women. Before starting the round trip route to the Lincoln Center, riders were given an opportunity to become familiarized with their new share bicycle in the parking lot and given a
a brief safety talk.
The route consisted of 2.4 miles mostly along the tree-lined Pikes Peak Greenway trail. Once at the Popsicle Bridge, riders headed east to Wood Avenue then onto Jackson Street. At the intersection with Cascade Avenue, all riders bicycled through one traffic signal and then headed north to the Lincoln Center. Once at the Lincoln Center, riders parked and locked bicycles at the convenient PikeRide Kiosk Station.
With several shops to choose from, thirsty riders were soon taking a break and cooling down with iced drinks while getting to know their bicycling companions at Building Three Coffee. Several Kodak moments and several conversations later, riders were soon back on their share bicycles and retracing the route. All agreed that they had a great time and appreciated the opportunity to try out PikeRide in a no-drop group ride with other women.
The 2nd Ladies Ride coming 29 September 2018 is planned to reverse the start and finish points of the route and utilize the new bicycle lanes along Cascade Avenue. Stay tuned for a FaceBook event and EventBrite link for the 2nd Ladies PikeRide
