USOP Museum Bridge Placement Mon Oct 5th

The 250-foot, 550 ton southwest downtown pedestrian bridge on its abutments Monday, Oct. 5. The placement of the bridge is weather and resource dependent and may be subject to change. The bridge should be in place by noon, but it is recommended to view the installation via the live stream listed below

The iconic bridge that will connect America the Beautiful Park with downtown Colorado Springs will be hoisted into the air, driven across the railroad and placed onto its abutments in a carefully orchestrated effort to complete the event within an eight-hour window. 

To help ensure a safe and efficient movement of the bridge and adhere to public health guidelines for social distancing, the public is encouraged to watch the bridge placement from a distance by viewing the live stream on the Olympic City USA Facebook page at 8 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. The social media hashtag for the bridge placement is #COSPedBridge.

Pedestrian Bridge and SW Downtown Project Details

On-site work will continue through the winter before the bridge opens to the public in early 2021, weather and construction dependent.

Times are approximate and subject to change.

8 a.m. 10 a.m. Place final pre-staging materials across railroad
10 a.m. 11 a.m. Transport bridge across railway
11 a.m. 1 p.m. Prep work to move the bridge from risers to abutments
1 p.m. ~2 p.m. Place bridge on abutments and secure
~2 p.m. 4 p.m. Remove equipment and staging materials
