CDOT Saftey Event

Support Safer Streets in Colorado Springs with CDOT at Memorial Park Sept 25

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is partnering with Bicycle Colorado to launch this critical event to bring awareness to bicycle and pedestrian safety on our roadways.

Thursday, September 25th, from 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Memorial Park, Peace Officers’ Memorial lawn
Yard signs will be displayed highlighting Colorado laws, vital pedestrian safety messaging and fatality data with personalized messages remembering those impacted by a vehicle and pedestrian crash. There will also be an engagement booth featuring CDOT, Bicycle Colorado, survivors and the families of bicycle fatality victims.

This event comes on the heels of the Route 2 Change event in August, also hosted by The White Line, honoring those lost to traffic violence on road. This CDOT event aims to bring attention to the urgent need for safer roads, while remembering bicyclists and pedestrians killed by traffic violence. Following a powerful campaign in Denver that used memorial signs at Washington Park to honor the 79 bicyclists who have died in Colorado since 2020. Watch news coverage of the Denver Event Here.

We’re also driven by the sobering statistics from a recent Colorado Sun article, which reported that pedestrian fatalities in Colorado increased by 150% in the last decade, even as other traffic fatalities decreased. This collaborative effort emphasizes the shared responsibility of all road users to keep our streets safe.

The Colorado Springs CDOT event will include:

  • Media engagement to share important safety messages with the wider public.
  • Placement of yard signs to raise awareness throughout the area.
  • The launch of a digital campaign to spread the message online.

Your presence helps amplify this important message and shows strong community support for safer streets. Bicycle Colorado will have a table at the event, and we look forward to engaging with anyone who stops by.

Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone who walks, bikes, and drives in Colorado Springs. We hope to see you there!
